For your next blog activity, I would like you to describe what has been the most enjoyable thing you have done so far while being at Stony Brook this summer. You may also simply describe some recent summer pleasure you have experienced--a walk on the beach, seeing a great summer film (or "flick," as we say), eating some typical summer food you love, meeting a new friend, etc.... You may choose to describe an activity you have done or an experience you have had. Either way, let us know why it was memorable and special for you. Write at least 5-8 sentences discussing it. Try to tell us a good story by adding physical details, such as things you can see, touch, taste, hear, smell, etc...Have fun!
Next week we will be going to the MAC lab as a class (either Monday or Tuesday from 11:00-11:50--I will be announcing this in class). While we are in the computer Lab, I will be teaching you how to practice publishing posts to the blog (if you don't know already). Therefore, you will have some time to work on this activity while we are in the computer Lab. However, if you don't complete this activity in class, I will expect you to finish this assignment by midnight on Tuesday (7/27), so that everyone can go to the class blog on Wednesday (7/28/10) and read everyone's post! You may publish this assignment either in the form of a comment or a post--whichever form you are most comfortable with at that point. If you wish, you may include a hyperlink or picture in your post. When we are in the computer lab, I will be teaching you how to include pictures and hyperlinks in your blog posts--it is easy and simple to do! Here is a recent summer pleasure I have enjoyed:
My mother was born in a small New England town right on the water. This town is called Bristol and is located in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States! Rhode Island is also called the "ocean state" because it is surrounded by water. Needless to say, my mother grew up on the water--sailing and swimming. My mother moved back to Rhode Island several years ago to live there permanently again. Before that, she had been living in Connecticut, where I grew up with my brothers and sisters. Thus, every summer I go back to Bristol, Rhode Island to visit my mother. I enjoy the beautiful Bristol Harbor (see above photo), the delicious seafood, such as clams and lobster, and watching the sailboats skim across the water. It is an exquisite place to spend time in in the summer and all my brothers and sisters try to visit Bristol as much as possible when we can! I was recently in Bristol, Rhode Island for the Fourth of July and enjoyed the famous Fourth of July Parade. Each July, Bristol has a fabulous parade with bands, clowns, floats, music and even well-known politicians (the governor of Rhode Island even took part in the parade!). This parade has existed for 225 years!!! It is a great way to celebrate Independence day--sitting outside watching the bands march by, sipping Rhode Island's famous Del's lemonade and relaxing with my family. It was very hot this year (a scorcher! as we say in English), but we all had a wonderful time. This was one of my recent pleasurable summer experiences. Can you tell me a recent summer memory of your own?
Last thursday, I went to port jefferson with three friends. That may be counted as an enjoyable experience I had since I arrived at Stony Brook. The style of architecture is fascinating to me; the world seemed to me totally changed. I leaned on the railings set around the sea, breathing the fresh air from the sea, enjoying the breeze caressing my skin, gazing in distance the vague and endless horizon . I felt refreshed. Later on, we had our delicious dinner, lobster, which perfectly hit my spot. I think I really love the Sea.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you liked Port Jefferson, Justin. It can be a very relaxing and soothing place. And lobster is one of my favorite summer foods!
