Hi, I'll introduce about 'Tango'. I think everybody have experience that heard about 'Tango'. When I was young, I watched the movie 'Scent of a Woman'( I really like movie since when I was young). In the movie, 'Alfred James Pacino'( We usually call him as Al Pacino) is a blind old man who were retired from army. He travel to City(sorry I don't remember it's correct name of city) with a young guy who will take care, because he is blind. Al Pacino did a dance with a young girl who met in the restaurant in short time during their travel. Wow. It was amazing. I couldn't take my eyes off the scene and I thought that I'll learn tango someday. However I realized that someday never will come if I will not take action, so I learn tango about two months. Unfortunately, I prepared another exam last year, so I couldn't learn much things. In StonyBrook University, I found some club and lessons but I couldn't join them because they are canceled with few people. I will start learn tango when I come back to Korea.

As I said I'll introduce about 'Tango'. Tango has history about two hundred years. People think tango were originated three sources. At first it's from Africa slave's dance. They were hauled to Cuba from Africa and introduce their dance to the south american continent. Second source is the Habanera, dance of slaves in Havana(capital of Cuba) in nineteen century. The european accept this dance and call as 'Andalusian Tango' The last source is 'Milonga', dance of the poor in Buenos Aires (capital of the Argentine Republic). These three dances were conbined; therefore tango was born. There are lost of history of tango, but I'll tell about some of them. (p.s : Milonga means the place which people to tango. Tango was the dance for the lower classes at first, because it is gorgeous and erotic dance. However it was getting changed as elegant, and become the important skill in Buenos Aires.

It was the golden age of tango when nineteen century to before W.W.Ⅱ. During the W.W.Ⅱ, tango was getting be dull. After end of war, the tango cafe was opened, but Argentina's young people thought that tango is culture of old people. However many people tried to introduce tango to other people and keep going on.
Here are three movie about tango. First one is 'take the lead'. This movie's tango is good and they do dance passionately. Second one is 'Scent of a Woman', my favorite. Wow I think this movie's tango is awesome. Last one is 'Geraldine Rojas y Pablo Veron'. I didn't watch this, but this video's tango is very general and high quality. I hope you guys will enjoy this.
I have learned Tango when I was a sophomore. I selected the Ballroom Dancing, so I learned not only Tango but also Waltz, Foxtrot, Qickstep, and V. Waltz, but I forgot all of them. Comparing to other kinds of Ballroom Dancing, I love Tango. This Dance has quick and slow pace, strong and elegant as well.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Scent of a woman is a good movie!!
I recall I once participated in a dancing show with my classmates, in which we needed to dance "breaking", a type of dancing in korean style. It is a difficult dancing, especially for a novice. Finally, I did turn myself upside down which is a typical action in "breaking" dancing.
ReplyDeleteI'm very interested in your topic because I love dancing including Tango, although I haven't really learned Tango in the strict sense. Music, dancing are both a form to show a personal emotional coloring. There is nothing more enthusiastic than following the music with dancing. I really want to see the movie you recommanded. I will watch that when the semester end. Thx
ReplyDeleteHey, Klause.
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting topic for me, because I did't know Tango a lot until you told me. I am so surprised that the Tango has two-hundred-year history, and I also watched the video you give to us.
the girl is so hot, right?^^ I think this is the glamour of Tango.
thanks for your sharing.
Hi, Klause.
ReplyDeleteTango!, I am glad to read about Tango. Tango is really energetic and romantic. I really like Tango Once, I was interested in Tango, and I tried to play the song 'Libertango' by violin although it was really difficult to play. Thanks for you, I newly know the sources of tango. I just thought that tango come from Italy or France. It's very interesting.
Here is Libertango video.

I think Tango is one of the most beautiful type of dances in the world, since it is sexy and passionate. I love "the scent of women", too, and I especially love the music they dance with. It's called "Por una cabeza" by Carlos Garde. This scene was considered as one of the most beautiful scene in the film history. It is so romantic and impressive.
ReplyDeleteKlaus:
ReplyDeleteA very interesting topic to have chosen for your official class blog. I very much enjoyed your discussion of the origins of Tango--how it might have begun in Cuba (via slaves), in Havana or in Buenos Aires ("the dance of the poor"). This reminds me of Flamenco dance in Spain, which also originated from the Gypsies and street culture in Andalusia (Southern Spain). Now it is an elegant dance all classes of society love in Spain. Thank you for this informative official post.
