Italy

My dream country Italy and dream city Venice

One day, I would like to visit Italy, and my blog is going to about Italy and the historical city Venice. In the beginning of the IEC program, Alexandra asked us:" What would you like to do before you kicked the bucket?" my answer was "visit to Italy". I would begin my blog with some formal information, and maybe we can call those information quick facts about Italy. Then, I will also include my opinions. :)
Italy is southern Europe. It is commonly known for its shape. When I was child, I was filling out the crossword sheet in the newspaper, and there was a question that says what is the country that is shaped like boot-shaped? I had no idea what was the crossword asking me about. Right after that question, I promptly asked my father what is the answer. He said:"It is Italy.", and he showed the map of the Italy to me. Since that time, I have a desire for Italy to visit. What were we talking about is its shape. Thus, Italy is like boot-shaped peninsula and is bordered to France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.
As you can see at right picture. You can also see the shape of Italy.
*The capital of the Italy is Rome. The name of the city comes from Roman times.
*The city which is surrounded by water is Venice, and my best city in Italy.Venice has been also known in world; "Serenissima", "City of water", "City of bridges", and "City of Canals" etc. (there are more names out there but i wont write all of it)I think, the important and historical thing about Venice is how this city surrounded by water? How this happened? Many year ago, where people were seeking refuge to protect their selves from barbarian invasions, and they made several islands and put water since barbarians cannot reach them. In addition, they connected the islands with bridges this is the reason why they call the city also " City of Bridges". As a result, Venice was built on islands. Obviously, there are no cars at all and the transportation is by boat, yacht etc. This must be amazing!! Actually, one of my friend visited Venice, and she said It is a good place to see but not good to live in. I kind of agree with her because it must be really hard to connect another places. Anyways, I still like it.
One of sightseeing from Venice right above.
I would like to also tell you about fashion. I do personally like European fashion , and Milan is the one of the city in Italy; moreover the city is one of the fashion capitals of the world. The world oldest shopping mall is located in Milan which name is Galleria Vittoria Emanuele, and the architecture of it is adorable. The last thing about Milan is the famous fashion street Via Monte Napoleon and you can find all the world famous brands.
Since this is Rome, it means there are a lot of history behind it. When I go to Italy ,I would like to visit first Colosseum in Rome( the Roman Amphitheater), Pantheon is one of the most recognizable architecture in the world and it is circular Roman temple dedicated to all the gods in 27 BC in Rome, Circus Maximus in Rome; furthermore, Vatican Museum, Uffizi Gallery( the world's largest collection of art). The picture right is Vatican:)

I mean what can I say more? The beautiful city is waiting for me; history, culture, food (pizzas and pastas), Venice. A boot-shaped peninsula is waiting for me..

Thank you for reading.
Please leave a comment as explaining or telling the country you want to visit, and 1 or 2 reasons why do want to visit there.

I hope you enjoy it.

  1. Hi little sister~
I want to go to Italy!!
I did not know Venice surrounded by water is to protecting from invansions until I read your blog.
I saw the picture of Colosseum in Rome in my textbook when I was a high school student. I remember that the Romanean built the water channel on the top of the collosseum. It is amazing to have water system at that time.

I want to visit Korea. Even though Korea is near my country, I do not have chance to go there. The first reason I would like to go to Korea is that I am so crazy about Korean soap drama. I could not believe that I learned Korean for a few month before coming to the State. My sister thought that I was so silly to learn Korean rather than improve English first. However, I could not stop myself learning Korean. I loved to go to the class and immersed myself in the class. Sometimes, I wondered whether I should go to Korea rather than go abroad to the State. In addition, my second reason is that I made some Korean friends here. Hanging out with them allows me to insist the decision to visit Korea. Korean men are so polite to girls. I feel I am like a little princess. Moreover, Korean are cooperative and had guts to give out their opinions.

  2. Waw i didnt know that u were able to speak Korean. You are amazing sis:) I would also like to go Korea because of one of my friend. She loves Korean people. In her facebook, majority of her friends are Korean people. Also, she speaks Korean and watches a lot of Korean films and series. She recommended one of series to which name is Boys over Flowers. Actually, since i dont like romance movies, i didnt like the serie. On the other hand, its good for to know culture in series because of those reasons I would like to visit there.
I hope you go one to Korea for visit... ( only visit)) because you must stay here and improve English...

  3. The city, even the country, seems fascinated to me. Actually, I like relaxed travels because new stuffs can inspire, motivate and edify me and I have time to enjoy them. when I was young ,I once thought about that I could be an archeologist so that I could run around the world, discover the remained virgin places and reveal the mysteries or legends of human history. However, I found out my simple interests probably would not fit in my academic researches in this field.

  4. Hey Aslinur,
This sounds like a really interesting place to visit!!
I'd like to be there one day, too. The romantic lifestyle and art atmosphere really attract me. I said the lifestyle is romantic because there is water and bridges everywhere instead of road and cars; therefore, you have to take boats the whole time during traveling, which is so different from the usual way. People there seem to be really relaxingly and friendly. They are enjoying their life on water instead of rushing for work and money. Just image sitting in a boat with your lover are enjoying the beautiful view on both sides or simply lying down the board leaving your mind blank for a while are things that make everyday life a little more romantic. Plus, Italy is a right place for art fans to realize the dreams to be an artist. You can see different kinds of photographs and paintings along the street. This is because in Italy, people welcome different kinds of art expression, and every single person believes that he/she can be a super star in the future.
Also, I agree with you that the architecture is adorable and fascinating. People will with no doubt think of Colosseum in Rome when you mention Rome to them. It is the symbol to Rome just as Eiffel Tower is the symbol to Pairs.

  5. Hello Asli

I love Italy too!!!..it is such a romantic place!!The thing I like the most of Italy is the language. I think the accent is so passioned. Also, Venice is a beautiful city, I would like to visit the city and take a ride in the gondolas.

However, I want to visit some places in my own country before. For example, the Easter Island is a place that belongs Chile, but I never have gone to there. Also I would like to visit the most southern part of my country because there are the most fantastics volcanos, forest, geyser, rivers and lakes of the continent (I am not biased...jijiji...:) ).

  7. Hello~ Aslinur~
Right, Italy is really romantic country. Actually, I visited the Italy with my sister when I was 20 years old. Although it was really short term trip(about 4 days ^^;), I could briefly feel and know about Italians romance. People in Italy were energetic and humorous. Most of all, I could see many beautiful architectures everywhere of Italy, so wherever I was, I could feel like be in a movie. I strongly recommand you to visit the Venice and the Vatican city. If you visit these cities, you can get special experiances that you can't get in another cities. One day, I would also like to visit Italy again.

  10. Dear Asli:

I enjoyed your whimsical observations about Italy--especially how you first became interested in it by doing a crossword puzzle! I feel like you did a nice job of introducing the various cities in Italy to your classmates. By the way, I believe the Uffizi Gallery is in Florence--another beautiful Italian city. I have been to Venice. I was there in January--it was a damp, brooding time of the year, and I found the city full of narrow streets, mysterious buildings and maze-like passageways. The day before I left it rained so hard that I found myself splashing through water that was up to my ankles!!! I also came upon a lovely family-owned restaurant and had one of my best meals there and the architecture of the city was amazing. I recommend going in September when it is still warm but not the crazy tourist season.

As far as a place I would like to visit (a nice question to ask your classmates), I think I would like to go to Istanbul:)--its culture and history seem fascinating to me, and I love cosmopolitan cities!!! It is also in a part of the world I have not yet explored, so I am curious about Turkey in general.

Thanks for these thoughts on Italy, Aslinur.

  11. I used to be in Rome in Sep. 2008 for three months at the American Academy in Rome as a part of cultural exchange between Mediterranean basin and Middle East.
As an archaeologist, It was really a good opportunity to visit several museums and ancient cities, and cultural instantiations, as well.

  17. Hi. It is good post. Actually I went to travle to Europe last year. I travel 8 country, and Italy is one of them. As you said Italian's fashion was great. I thought there were fashion show in the street. I went Roma, Venice, and the Vatican. The Venice was most interesting city in my travel. People said Venice's road is very complicated, and I heard that before I went there. ... I lost my way there. Wow the road was very complicated. Besides, someone who look like tourist asked me that where she is. I strongly recommen Venice. However you should check the date before you visit Venice. In my case there was a festival one day before I visit Venice. Timing is important. ^^

  19. For Asli:
I have to say I love Italy and Italian culture too. You know? When the first time I was asked this question by our professor Alexandra last semester: "What is the one thing you want to do before kicking the bucket?" I answered "I want to visit Italy oneday." And on this semester, when I heard you got the same ansewer for that question, I was very surprised. I believe that Roman culture is really fantastic or there will not be so many people love it.

I love Roman culture because of the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire is really fascinating for many many reasons: one of the biggest empire and strongest civilization in the history; First Republic government system ever exist; most developed urban architectures; the culture root for all western civilizations...... I believe there are millions of reasons to love Rome and Italy.

At last, I want to visit Hawaii (although Hawaii is just a state of the U.S. not a country). I have dreamed to be there for a long-long time, the sun-shine there, palm trees, delivious juicy fruit, scuba-diving, highest sea waves for sufering... anything, everything is awesome. I will be there with the other half of mine (if I can, in the future) and have a wonderful time in the future.

BTW: it is said that there is no memory there is Pacific Ocean

  20. Dear Aslinur:

It's so glad to know you like fashion too!!!! I visited the link you made about the oldest shopping mall-Galleria Vittoria Emanuele. The architacture is so magnificent and brillient. I love Europe and Milan as well cause it seems so mysterious and enjoybale. I wish I can travel each single city in Europe without missing any one of them.
and the Colosseum in Rome surprised me since a very grand architacture appear in front of me which I never seen before. Although Europe architacture is similar with American, I still want to experience the European climate, already sounds fresh to me.

BYW, I have had a lot reading today, but your topic is so attractive and inspired me so that I finish this article light-heartedly and longingly.

  21. Hi Aslinur!
I also want to go to Italy!!

all of the international trade via sea.
they made bridge between asian and western culture.
They still affect a lot of effect to the world.
